chronic pain opioids recovery personal
For over a decade I lived under the weight of prescriptions that added up to more than 100mg of morphine equivalents a day: 50mg of oxycodone (as strong as heroin, stronger than morphine) plus 240mg of codeine. This wasn’t a back-alley deal — this was doctors, clipboards, repeat scripts. White coats, legal pads, and a chemical leash.
The cost
Opioids dulled pain but also ambition, sleep, and years of my life. Time blurred into doses and withdrawals, with “treatment” slowly becoming dependence.
The turning point
In March 2025 I started weaning/tapering with help from my GP. Withdrawal was brutal — sweat, sleepless nights, nerves screaming — but clarity followed.
